Over 72% of the nation’s 2014 freight was carried by for-hire trucks, according to the “Transportation in Canada 2015” Overview Report by Transport Canada. For-hire trucking traffic accounted for 276.2 billion tonne-kilometres, an increase of 9.9% compared to 2013. About 40% of that traffic involved international movement.
